Custom review instructions
Teach ReviewIQ what your team specifically cares about.
Custom instructions are how you turn a generic reviewer into your reviewer. Create them in Settings → Review Instructions.
Rule types
- prompt — guidance the reviewer keeps in mind.
- policy — a rule the reviewer must actively enforce.
- quality_gate — a condition that can block a merge. See Quality gates.
- label — drives custom labelling.
Write it roughly, then sharpen it
Write the instruction the way you'd say it to a colleague — "flag any DB query that hits the writer instance when it only reads" — then press ✨ Improve with AI to rewrite it into a precise, testable instruction. You can still edit the result. If the AI service is unavailable your text is left untouched.
Scope
Every instruction applies either to all repositories or to a hand-picked set. Use the search box in the picker to filter, and Select all to take everything currently matching your filter.
Learnings
Instructions aren't the only signal. When your team dismisses a finding, ReviewIQ records the fingerprint and stops re-raising that class of issue on that repository.
